תהליכי שיקום בעקבות פגיעה גופנית או קשיים תפקודיים בילדות יכולים להוות נטל פסיכולוגי הן לילד והן למשפחה. במקרים רבים, ילדים ובני משפחתם נאלצים להתמודד עם שינויים פיזיים, כאבים ושינויים בשגרת היומיום. רבים גם נאבקים בתגובות רגשיות והתנהגותיות, כגון מתח, חרדה וסומטיזציה. צוות המחקר לנוירו-פסיכולוגיה ופסיכולוגיה שיקומית בילדים מתמקד בגורמים פסיכולוגיים המשפרים את הרווחה הפסיכולוגית של ילדים והורים, מפחיתים את הביטוי של סגנון ההתמודדות בלתי-הסתגלותי והתסמינים המשויכים לכך ומשפרים את תוצאות השיקום.
